CIC START GRANT
NORD and project partners, The Department for Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, have been awarded a substantial CIC Start Online grant for the development of a Dynamic Simulation Tool.
Scottish Building Professionals are familiar with simplified assessment methods such as SAP and SBEM. The SAP user interface is easy to use and is defined by a worksheet which highlights changes under varying parameters. There are though some concerns about the accuracy of some of its results particularly for very energy efficient modern homes. Dynamic Simulation Tools can provide very detailed results but may suffer from a steep learning curve and over parameterisation (Counsell, Khalid et al. 2010).
The aim of the project is in the creation of a new Advanced Energy Modelling of Domestic System Method which may then be used as an options appraisal tool for architects.
