Timespan Heritage Centre

NORD have completed the refurbishment of the Timespan Heritage Centre in Helmsdale in the North East Scottish Highlands.

The project was designed to a tight budget and the conditions of a variety of funding bodies. A new program needed to be added whilst maintaining and rationalising the existing functions of the building as a local gallery, museum and arts centre.

The centre also now features a community archive, story telling room and geology garden. A woodchip boiler has also been installed, with supplementary solar water heating, in line with the project’s strong sustainability agenda.

The relocation externally of the existing geology exhibit created a unique garden and outdoor seating area. The new glass balustrade to the river’s edge provides uninterrupted views of the river Helmsdale and the adjacent Grade A listed Thomas Telford bridge.
