101 St Vincent Street

The site is situated on the corner of 101 St. Vincent Street and Renfield Street in the city centre of Glasgow.  The client brief was the refurbishment of the existing ground floor retail units and office suites on the upper levels. Key to this is the creation of an extension to the rooftop.

An appropriate contemporary design solution offers a fully functional building both in terms of access and usability, while remaining truly sympathetic to the historical nature of the existing building and its surrounding and wider context.

The external façade design centres on the relationship that exists between ground floor shop fronts, the original classical sandstone façade and the new roof element. The proposal for the building’s two main elevations on St Vincent Street and Renfield Street are designed to be understood as three separate parts that combine as a whole.
